Planting Giant Pumpkins
Sunday, May 4th, 2008Today I planted four of my Dill’s Atlantic Giant Pumpkins in containers. They say that it takes 7-10 days to germinate. I’ve been reading a little about Giant Pumpkins from various resources online. One of the key ingredients is to get the right soil PH level, compost and a lot of luck. Although the record Giant Pumpkin is over 1500 lbs I am hoping to get a 200 plus pound pumpkin our first year.
I’ve got an area in my backyard that is really not good for anything else so I think I will turn it into my garden. I think I will have to rent a rotor tiller and till up the garden this week in preparation for planting season.
This year, me and my son are thinking about what to grown in the garden. I have thought about it for several years but this year we are going to grow a giant pumpkin. I wanted to grow one for the Circleville Pumpkin show but found out that I live 28 miles and the rules only allow for 21 miles.
