Today, I officially weigh the most I ever have at 277.4 lbs. What kind of diet am I on? Evidently - None. The results are self evident. This needs to be my wake up call. I can’t go on living and feeling the way that I do. I am torn between using the low-carb diet which I know will work in the short term or go back on Weight Watchers which also provides results but has been hard for me to stick with in the past.

I am embarrassed, ashamed and frustrated all at the same time. Even working out in the yard doesn’t seem to budge the scales in my favor. I am eating the wrong things, at the wrong times and exercise with the exception of grass mowing is non-existent. Suggestions are encouraged

I made this little banner up because I thought it was funny. Maybe it’s in bad taste - no pun intended or was it? This is probably the lowest moral booster for me in all of my 26 voting years. I choose …………… Who cares?

I also mowed the lawn this afternoon. I am so out of shape it isn’t funny. My back aches because of all the extra weight I have been carrying. I am setting my sights on a better day tomorrow.

I started out pretty good and everything was going great. Saturday morning I set out to clean the living room and kitchen. I made it through the living room and cleaned everything up. I turned on the radio and was in a mood to drink beer (Which hardly ever happens). I broke down and went to the drive thru and purchased a 12 pack and drank six beers by the afternoon.

That led to a total breakdown in my diet, not to mention the sever hang over I received yesterday. It was a “I’ll never drink again” day. If you have ever said that then you know what I mean. I am still feeling bad both mentally and physically from Saturday. I just can’t do what I did in my twenties anymore.

I’ve been reading a little about Giant Pumpkins from various resources online. One of the key ingredients is to get the right soil PH level, compost and a lot of luck. Although the record Giant Pumpkin is over 1500 lbs I am hoping to get a 200 plus pound pumpkin our first year.

I’ve got an area in my backyard that is really not good for anything else so I think I will turn it into my garden. I think I will have to rent a rotor tiller and till up the garden this week in preparation for planting season.

I have thought about it for several years but this year we are going to grow a giant pumpkin. I wanted to grow one for the Circleville Pumpkin show but found out that I live 28 miles and the rules only allow for 21 miles.

Will we succeed this year? Probably not but it will be fun to try and get outdoors more to enjoy the fresh air not to mention exercise. Keep an eye out as I will keep updates to how it is going.

We are not that educated in the process but picked up a packet of “Dill’s Atlantic Giant”. The packet said that it is common for its seeds to consistently produce 400-500 pound fruit. I didn’t know pumpkin was a fruit?

Its called Wakerupper.com and they will call you anytime of the day or night to remind you of a meeting, get you up in the morning or out of a boring meeting.

Be sure to sign up as I don’t think they are letting guests use it anymore. I hope that they will remain free but I have been using it for the past 5 months now without any problems.

I guess the main reason for me being overweight is my unwillingness to grasp the idea that I take in more calories than I burn. I read all of these diet books that say to take your current calorie consumption and reduce it by 500 calories per day. Just how the heck are you going to figure that out when I never eat the same way twice and have no idea what my daily calorie intake is. I do know that over the course of a week I am consuming probably 7000 calories more than I should or at least it seems that way with a 2 pound gain a week.

I guess I need to get real and count each flex point and stay on track to start losing. It’s basically been a free for all lately, a anything goes mentality and it is showing quite well around my waist line. I am even to the point that I don’t bother weighing myself because I don’t want to depress myself anymore than I already am.

I have been in a very bad habit for nearly 15 years of a ritual of going each more to the convenient store and purchasing a couple of bottles of diet Mountain Dew on my way to work for break and lunch. This is then followed by storing at the convenient store on the way home for one or two more for the evening. Right or wrong this is what I have been doing for the past, well for as long as I can remember.

We won’t even go into whether that much pop is even good for you. I am going to break down the savings for you and myself as I am writing to see how much I would save by buying 12 or 24 packs at home. First, a bottle of soda pop 20 oz is right now about $1.29-$1.39 and usually you can get a 2 for $2 or 2 for $2.22, I’ve seen both. The 12 oz cans can be purchase for around $2.99 to $3.99 a twelve pack. I found a great sale this week and purchased 24 packs for $4.50.

Let’s be conservative and do the first price for bottles at a dollar a soda pop. $1 x 4 = $4 per day for bottle soda pop. $4 per day x 365 = $1460 per year of Diet Mountain Dew. Now, let’s go with a middle of the road figure of $3.50 for can soda pop per 12 pack. That breaks down to a little under .30 cents per can. Wait a minute you say? That is only 12 oz versus 20 oz cans. Ok, let’s double it and say .60 cents. 60 cents x 4 per day is $2.40 per day or $876 per year. That is a savings of $584 per year and you even get more soda.

I could purchase a 4 day - 3 night cruise to the Bahamas each year for 2 people just from the money I save by switching from Bottle to Cans. Oh and wait just a minute - one more thing. The bottles end up in the trash, which in turn go to the land fill. The cans on the other hand can be crushed and take to the recyclers and right now you can get as much as 70 cents per pound. That might even buy your drinks on the cruise?
