Elliptical Machine Workout

Saturday, March 8th, 2008

Elliptical Machine Workout  Nothing in my local gym beats the experience I get with an elliptical machine. Unlike treadmills, Elliptical machines offer a low impact workout that exercises the whole body.

Starting tomorrow I am going back to the gym and set a goal of at least 3 times per week but I will strive for 4-5 days a week for 30 minutes. The key to using these machines is to get your heart rate high enough to start burning calories but not too high that it starts using your glucagon glycol reserves.

I strive for about 120 strides per minute but usually I am in the range between 110-140. If this is your first time then you may want to keep it around 100 strides per minute and 10-15 minutes and work your way up to a 30 minute workout.

One Pound Equals 3500 Calories

Friday, March 7th, 2008

I need to get this concept into my head that 1 pound of weight is equal to 3500 calories. So if you eat 3500 calories less per week then you would lose 1 pound or eat less and exercise more.

Calorie Chart is for a 190 lb person doing and activity for 1 hour.

345 Bicycling, <10mph, leisure
431 Bicycling, stationary, general
216 Billiards
259 Bowling
302 Cleaning, house, general
388 Dancing, general
216 Fishing from boat, sitting
431 Gardening, general
474 Golf, carrying clubs
259 Golf, miniature or driving range
474 Mowing lawn, general
388 Painting, papering, plastering, scraping
216 Pushing or pulling stroller with child
345 Raking lawn
216 Walking 2.0 mph, slow pace
302 Walking, 3.0 mph, mod. pace
690 Walking, upstairs

The bottom line is that if you do some physical activity and watch your calorie intake you can lose weight.
