Planted My Low Carb Garden

Sunday, May 18th, 2008

Today I tilled my garden again and then I went down to my local garden center and planted my vegetables. I planted six tomato plants, six bell pepper plants (For my western omelets) and two mounds of cucumbers. I also purchased some strawberry plants and put them in a hanging basket. If I get a chance I will take some photos and post soon.

GrillI didn’t go to the gym today but I think I got a work out in the garden. I was near my grill and fried up the rest of the chicken legs I had left over from yesterday. I finished the evening off with a small salad with ranch dressing (1g carbs per serving). My problem right now is serving size. Although the dressing is only 1g per serving - I don’t know what a serving is nor do I seem to care. I spread to taste - so I really probably added 11-12 grams of carbs just in that salad.

This is my grill - ain’t it nice? If your gonna grill out then do it in style.

Planting Giant Pumpkins

Sunday, May 4th, 2008

Today I planted four of my Dill’s Atlantic Giant Pumpkins in containers. They say that it takes 7-10 days to germinate. I’ve been reading a little about Giant Pumpkins from various resources online. One of the key ingredients is to get the right soil PH level, compost and a lot of luck. Although the record Giant Pumpkin is over 1500 lbs I am hoping to get a 200 plus pound pumpkin our first year.

I’ve got an area in my backyard that is really not good for anything else so I think I will turn it into my garden. I think I will have to rent a rotor tiller and till up the garden this week in preparation for planting season.

Growing Giant Circleville Pumpkins

Saturday, May 3rd, 2008

Giant PumpkinsThis year, me and my son are thinking about what to grown in the garden. I have thought about it for several years but this year we are going to grow a giant pumpkin. I wanted to grow one for the Circleville Pumpkin show but found out that I live 28 miles and the rules only allow for 21 miles.

Will we succeed this year? Probably not but it will be fun to try and get outdoors more to enjoy the fresh air not to mention exercise. Keep an eye out as I will keep updates to how it is going.

We are not that educated in the process but picked up a packet of “Dill’s Atlantic Giant”. The packet said that it is common for its seeds to consistently produce 400-500 pound fruit. I didn’t know pumpkin was a fruit?
